Healthy Start Services
The development of the Healthy Start Services has provided a constant presence in the community where residents, both young and old alike, know that they can come for assistance in an attempt to meet all of their basic needs. The following is a list of the services rendered by Healthy Start.
R.E.A.C.H. - Acting as a satellite office for the Salvation Army, Healthy Start provides a local place where individuals who meet the required application criteria with a 48 hr. or 15 day shut-off notice can apply for emergency funds for PG&E assistance. Services are available for the communities of Avenal, Kettleman City and Huron.
HEALTHY FAMILIES/MEDI-CAL FOR CHILDREN - Provides low-cost health, dental and vision insurance for children 0 up to age 18; if eligible, who do not have insurance today and are not eligible for no-cost Medi-cal. It helps parents get affordable and comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance coverage for their children. Applications are completed by appointment and walk-ins.
EMERGENCY FOOD - The Healthy Start Office works in close relation with Avenal Christian Aid to provide emergency assistance to members of the community.
ASSIST COMMUNITY WITH NEEDS - Filling out Medi-cal applications, reading and translating letters, faxing documents, etc.
We strive to build strong collaborations with our community and organizations, we will continue to seek out new resources to improve the services we offer.
